If all things were to be done and handled a certain way God would not have given us free will. A will to think, speak and make decisions according to our lives and the circumstances that surround them. Any right or wrong in your ventures is judged only in your heart. It matters not what anyone else thinks. Case in point. When I looked at getting a horse I saw several well trained beautiful creatures. Then I happened upon Knocks. He was filthy, neglected, underweight and had club feet (birth defect) you could put a halter on him and thats about it, riding him was most certainly out of the question. He feared everything that he encountered and had certain behaviors stemming from neglect and abuse. His short life was filled with so much misery. I found out that he was slated to go to Auction later that week which for a horse of his condition most likely meant he would go to slaughter. He has very soulfull eyes and you could see an endearing sweetness in them. The owner at the time got him as a rescue and was willing to give him away because he was to much "hassle" to keep. After meeting him I no longer cared about the other horses, I knew he was meant for me. That was in March of this year. Now he is an absolutely amazing creature. It took me months to gain his trust. At this point he will come up behind you and sling his head over your shoulder to nuzzle your face and get his ears scratched. His eyes light up when he see's me coming and he would practically climb up in your lap if you would allow him. I have spent alot of money and will have to spend alot more by the times its over. He has needed a significant amount of vet care, rehabilitation and corrective work on his feet and legs, special feed and 90 days worth of daily training. One could say that money would be better spent elsewhere. They may be correct. I gave up alot when I had Kylee to make sure she was well taken care of, happy, healthy and loved. I found ways to give up more to make sure Knocks was given a peacefull life free of pain and neglect. His unconditional love is worth more in return than the money I have put out. He warms my heart and is my therapy second only to Kylee after a bad day(s). So, the point of all my rambling is this. There is no price on Love, it is the single most valuable resource on this earth because no dollar amount can touch it. When you create a bond or an attachement to another living thing, be it two or four legged, its not so easy to break. So, as you sit back thinking about the money you have spent, just remember, it won't even come close to the love that you feel for one very special, comical and kid-like Chicken that graces your thriving homestead with her presence. As always....love the blog! Would those same "critics" say anything if you spent a large sum of money on something like a really "kick butt" :)pair of cool heels or,some other material thing that "they" deem worthy?! Actually, that shouldn't matter either, 'cause when it's all said, and done, It's YOUR'S AND FRED'S money! You both clearly have very sweet & tender hearts. I think Our Lord is very touched by your care, love, and concern for his precious creatures. Did He not say he knows every sparrow that falls, and knows the very number of hairs on our heads? We should also remember what He said about the lilies in the fields. It sounds like our Creator absolutely cares.I believe (if my belief counts for anything)lol He is proud of both of you for ALL your efforts. You both taught Sara, through that very sad ordeal, (poor little Helga your description of her injury, and her almost human actions really hurt my heart):( a very valuable lesson. She witnessed,as I'm sure she has many times, her parents caring for one of God's very special, and totally helpless creatures. How could that ever be a bad,or wrong thing? Anyway, as I now dismount my soapbox, while picking up my 2 cents, I will stop rambling!Keep up the good, and I'm certain very hard work!I could never do what you guys do, but certainly very much admire you both for actually practicing what you preach. :) God Bless!
